Our own experience in training psychiatric residents and psychology interns reflects a general consensus between disciplines and among participants of all persuasions ( payers, insurers, providers, and educators) that managed mental health care can provide an excellent framework around which to build an educational curriculum. The field of managed mental health care badly needs the knowledge base and academic core that professional training programs have the ability and the responsibility to provide.
